Maranta Lemon Lime is a stunning plant perfect for people who have pets since this plant is pet-friendly.
This plant looks beautiful hanging in a macrame basket on the ceiling or sitting on a shelf. There are some important things to know when taking care of a Maranta Lemon Lime.
Here are the main things to know for a Maranta Lemon Lime.
- Water. Make sure your Maranta Lemon Lime never dries out completely. This plant likes to stay on the moist side which is why it’s important to make sure your plant is potted in well-draining soil. If your soil is compacted and dense, this can quickly waterlog your plant and cause root rot.
- Light. Place your Maranta Lemon Lime in a spot getting bright indirect sunlight. This plant can even handle some medium sunlight or be placed near plant grow lights.
- Fertilizer. Feed your Maranta Lemon lime a natural or synthetic fertilizer. If using a synthetic fertilizer, make sure to dilute the recipe in half. Fertilize during the active growing months which is typically March through October.
- Humidity. Maranta Lemon Lime require higher humidity so be sure to place this plant in a bathroom or near a humidifier.

Maranta Lemon Lime thrive with these care tips.
Light
Maranta Lemon Lime thrive in bright indirect sunlight.
This would be in a spot in a room getting south, west, or east facing sunlight. If placing your plant right next to a window, it’s important to place a sheer curtain on the window so your plant never receives direct sunlight. This can quickly burn the foliage on your plant and destroy the stunning foliage.
You can also place this plant under plant grow lights like T5 Barrina’s. I use these lights and have them on a timer to run from 7AM-8PM everyday.
Water
Make sure to water your Maranta Lemon Lime whenever the top inch or two of soil is dry.
You never want your plants soil to dry out completely or else your plant will end up looking sad. Check your plants soil by placing your index finger in about two inches deep. If the soil is moist, you don’t have to water quite yet. If the soil is getting on the dryer side, it’s time for a thorough watering.
Soil
Since this plant doesn’t like to completely dry out, it’s important to give it well-draining soil because compact, dense wet soil can lead to root rot and kill your plant.
An easy solution to this is using pre-made soil like Fox Farm Ocean Forest houseplant soil which already comes prepared as well-draining soil. You can even add extra perlite or orchid bark for added drainage.
Temperature
Maranta Lemon Lime like consistently warm temperatures in the 60°F-85°F range.
Fertilizer
Fertilize your Maranta Lemon Lime every watering or every other watering. You can use a natural or synthetic fertilizer. If using a synthetic fertilizer, it’s important to dilute the recipe in half because too strong of a fertilizer will damage your plants and even kill them.
I fertilize every watering as this is easier for me. I use a mixture of Dyna-Gro and Azamax (natural pest preventative) in my water mixture and use that to water my plants. My plants love this mixture and grow rapidly with this method.
Humidity
Maranta Lemon Lime thrive in high humidity settings and if not given enough humidity, will quickly die and look sad. This is why it’s important to place your plant in a place getting high humidity like a bathroom or near a humidifier.
You can also place your plant on a tray of pebbles to add extra humidity around your plant. Make sure to group high humidity plants together as they naturally create a microclimate of higher humidity.
Propagation
Maranta Lemon Limes have nodes so you can cut a stem off with a node at any point on the plant.
Use clean shears and cut a stem with 1-2 nodes with a couple of leaves and place the node under water. Make sure not to submerge the leaves underwater. Only the node needs contact with the water.
In a few weeks you’ll see roots on your Maranta Lemon Lime. Once your plant has a few inches of roots, move the cutting to the preferred substrate.
